Monitoring the State of Preservation of Library Collections
In 2023, the Russian State Library, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, is conducting the second stage of the all-Russian Monitoring of the State of Preservation of Library Collections.
Particular attention will be paid to the assessment of the state of library documents in terms of the need and urgency of conservation intervention, based on an updated methodology for a mass survey of library collections using a multi-stage stratified sampling method.
Monitoring stages:
- Preparatory Stage (February 2023) - preparation of collections and employees for practical work regarding the examination of collections;
- The Main Stage (March — August 2023) - assessment of the physical condition of documents, summary and presentation of the results;
- Analytical Stage (September - December 2023) - summary and analysis of monitoring results.
