Day of Remembrance and Grief is a commemorative date that is one of the most tragic in Russian history. On June 22, 1941, the Great Patriotic War began after the attack of Nazi Germany and its allies on the Soviet Union. Every year on June 22, commemorative events are held in Russia, Belarus, and other post-Soviet countries. On this day, the State Flags of the Russian Federation are lowered throughout the country, and entertainment events in cultural institutions, on television, and radio are canceled. June 22 is celebrated as the Day of Remembrance and Grief, marking the beginning of the tragic events of 1941.
