The word "Nowruz" means "new day" in Persian. Ten years ago, UNESCO included the holiday in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Since then, it has been known as "International Nowruz Day." This holiday is an integral part of the national culture of many Eastern nations, but it is not related to religion. The origins of Nowruz date back to the 1st millennium BC, when the religion of Zoroastrianism was prevalent in ancient Iran. The ancient Iranians revered the Sun as the source of life and prosperity on earth.
