"I have dedicated my song to the people. I am giving my life to the people," said the Tatar poet Musa Jalil (1906-1944).
Jalil was an anti-fascist hero who joined the German-created national legion "Idel-Ural" while in captivity, where he became a member of an underground organization and organized escapes for prisoners of war. On August 25, 1944, the poet was executed by guillotine at the Pletzenzeе prison in Berlin.
In 1956, Musa Jalil was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
His poems live with us to this day.
