The role of Alexander Nikolaevich Ostrovsky in the history of the development of Russian dramaturgy, stage art and the entire national culture is difficult to overestimate. He did as much for the development of Russian drama as Shakespeare in England, Lope de Vega in Spain, Moliere in France, Goldoni in Italy and Schiller in Germany. He lived a highly decent life and wrote forty-seven plays, most of which have not left the stage for a hundred and fifty years, decorating the repertoires of both metropolitan and provincial Russian theaters. The exhibition presents to the attention of readers both the works of the writer and literature telling about the life and creative path of the great playwright.
