It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the language in which each of us discovered the world in early childhood. It was used to tell fairy tales in the family, sing songs in a corner dear to our hearts, with its help we learned to interact with everything that surrounds us. February 21 is the International Mother Tongue Day, established by UNESCO. This holiday is designed to help preserve the languages of the peoples of the Earth. According to statistics, as of 2022, there are 7,151 languages on Earth. About 2-3% of the world's population speaks the 40 most common languages. The library hosts an annual competition dedicated to this day. Children from 4 to 11 years old are invited to participate in the competition. The performances of the participants can be of any subject and genre (prose, poetry) in Russian, Tatar and other languages of the peoples of the world, lasting no more than 5 minutes.
