Yuri Gagarin is a Soviet cosmonaut, the first cosmonaut of the Earth, Hero of the Soviet Union.

He was born on March 9, 1934 in the village of Klushino in the Western region (today in the Smolensk region).

 On April 12, 1961, the Vostok spacecraft made an orbital flyby of the Earth, opening the era of manned space flights.

 He actively participated in the socio-political life of the country, was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, a member of the Komsomol Central Committee, president of the Soviet-Cuban Friendship Society, an honorary member of the Finland—Soviet Union Society.

 On March 27, 1968, while making another scheduled flight on the UTI MiG-15 aircraft, Gagarin crashed near the village of Novoselovo in the Vladimir region.
