"Naum will come - he will instruct on the mind" (December 14 - Naum-Literate Day)

On December 14, in the District Children's Library for students of the 3rd "B" class of ASOSH No. 1, an educational hour was held for the Day of the Naum-Literate - "Naum will come - he will instruct the mind." The children got acquainted with an interesting folk holiday, which they had never heard of before, learned the history of its occurrence, and various competitive tasks were prepared for them, where they could test their knowledge and skills.
Nahum is one of the Old Testament prophets. In Russia, he was considered the patron saint of knowledge and learning. The day of Naum the Literate used to be celebrated as a holiday of literacy, as a holiday of initiation into students. From that day they began to teach children on December 14 in the District Children's bmot. This date fell on Teacher's Day. This was explained by the fact that in winter peasant families had little work, and therefore, it was possible to pay attention to education. The rest of the time, even the children were busy with some kind of activity in the field or in the garden. Only after a certain number of years, the beginning of the school year was postponed to September 1.
